The purpose of human life is to serve, and to show compassion and the will to help others. ~Albert Schweitzer
My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style. ~Maya Angelou
Man may dismiss compassion from his heart, but God never will. ~William Cowper
We need to move into a culture of peace. What I hope to promote is the idea that we all need each other and that the greatest happiness in life is not how much we have but how much we give…You can’t buy compassion. ~Herbie Hancock
Mark 6:34 When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And he began to teach them many things.
Romans 12:20 To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.”
Colossians 3:12-13 Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.
Zechariah 7:10 do not oppress the widow, the fatherless, the sojourner, or the poor, and let none of you devise evil against another in your heart.
1 Peter 4:10 As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace:
In this world…it is easier to find those people who talk about love and compassion, than practice it. I speak of people who really put such things into the core of their very beings.
Ah, but when we do find others who try to love as God loves, who strive to be as caring and compassionate as our Savior Jesus Christ is, they are a priceless treasure!
They are the people who we search out in troubled times. We want them close in times of joy. We have a compelling desire to always be around these kinds of people.
As Christians, we should all be in the category of sympathetic, merciful, and charitable human beings. Our nature should be sincere, as we have been loved by our Father in these very same ways.
But instead our first impulse all too often is to pull back from too many of these feelings. Some of us may think we don’t have the capacity to be this kind of person…and with that frame of mind, we may be right.
So then, we find yet another area of our spiritual lives which needs work. Every one of us must constantly strive to be of a warm and solicitous nature, and bring these qualities into our own hearts. This is what God wants from His children…
May we help others in this way more often in the future. Let us give back to the world what we have been blessed with by our heavenly Father. Let go of those things which hinder these efforts.
May the Lord empower us as we strive to live a more Godly life!
